Hello to all my lovely Readers-
It's that time again!
This is the start of Week 3 of SarahEatsWhales, and I'm happy to say that the blog is thriving and that it looks like a lot of people have read it or at least checked it out!

Indie Film of The Week:
"On the Road with Judas"
Starring Aaron Ruell, Kevin Corrigan, Eddie Kaye Thomas, & Eleanor Hutchins
The plot of this movie is a bit hard to explain -it is about a novelist who lives in the real world and a world of his characters iniside his head. He writes a book about real people, which leads to the making of a movie with actors playing the real people. The real people from the book get a chance to interact with the people playing their characters. Fan of "The Science of Sleep" will definately enjoy this!



Foreign Film of the Week:
"Vitus"

Directed by Fredi M. Murer
This Swiss/German movie is simply wonderful! It follows the story of genious little boy named Vitus. He is very smart and excellent at playing the piano; because of his gift his parents want to use him to make themselves rich. However, along with the company of his grandfather, Vitus comes up with a plan that will fool everyone until the very end!

Documentary of the Week:

"The Boys of 2nd Street Park: A Generation's Look at Life, Loss, and Love"

A Film by Ron Berger and Dan Klores

This documentary follows a group of old men as they recount their experiences during the 1960's in New York. They went through everything together -from the Vietnam War to heavy drug use to Free Love to traveling the world to lost loves and back again. This is a very powerful documentary that also proves that true friendship and love can endure even the hardest and most difficult situations.

Indie Band of the Week:

The Most Serene Republic

I seriously cannot stop talking about this band; they are amazing! You simply MUST listen to this band! They mix classical piano with rock to create the most serene sounds. My favorite albums by them are "Population" and the "Phages" ep (I REALLY REALLY recommend this ep -it is BEAUTIFUL). Listen to this band. They will change your life!

I cannot even begin to explain how awesome and amazing this book is. Saul Williams takes readers through love, spirituality, God, and being disconnected from everything in this 200-page poem. Every word and phrase in this book is so beautiful! This is a MUST READ for EVERYONE!

Indie Film of the Week:

"Cashback"

Directed be Sean Ellis

I saw this movie last semester and it honestly changed some of my outlook on life. This movie is about a guy named Ben who goes through a painful breakup. To cope and to pass the time he gets a job at a supermarket, and his life changes forever.

Foreign Film of the Week:

"The Edukators"

Directed be Hans Weingartner

This movie is seriously awesome and a must-see for everyone! It's a German movie that follows 2 guys and 1 girl as they break into people's homes. They don't steal anything though; instead, they rearrange everything and leave a note that says, "You're days of plenty are numbered." Then their lives quickly changes as one of the homeowners catches them in the act.

Documentary of the Week:

"The Bridge"

A Film by Eric Steel

***This documentary is NOT for the faint of heart

Basically, Eric Steel and his camera crew set up cameras in many different locations around San Fransico that were focused on one thing -The Golden Gate Bridge. While the cameras were filming, over a dozen people were filmed commiting suicide by jumping off the bridge to their deaths below. This documentary follows the lives of those people and has interviews with their families and friends.

Hello, Seahorse!

I discovered this band during SXSW 2009 in Austin, Texas. They are a cute, indie-pop band from Mexico City and have released two albums so far. Their music is very catchy and happy; you will be bobbing your heads up and down to these tunes.

"Looking for Alaska" by John Green
This is one of my absolute FAVORITE books. In fact, one of my favorite quotes ("I go to seek a Great Perhaps") comes from that book. This book follows a girl named Alaska and her friends as they go through life a boarding high school. Read this book -you'll fall in love.

Right now I am currently listening to "Blue Lips" by Regina Spektor. If you don't know who she is, be sure to check her out @ <http://www.myspace.com/reginaspektor>.

She plays mainly piano, and her style is very classical and beautiful with lovely lyrics.

Regina Spektor is actually releasing a new album titled "Far" featuring new songs like "Blue Lips" and "Laughing With."

Also, I found a VERY interesting article on why social networking sites are ruining my life, your life, and pretty much everyone else's lives because we are so consumed in them.

So if you haven't already seen the movie titled "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, and Evan Rachel Wood, GO SEE IT. It's a very good movie :)!

Also, it's beautiful outside!

Everyone should go outside and take a walk.

Or lie down in the grass and watch the clouds move.

Either way, sometime during today I want everyone to STOP what they're doing and go outside. Look at the sky. Look at nature. Soak it all up. It's beautiful, and way better than facebook or myspace.

Or if you want to be cool, use your fucking twitter to encourage people to go outside and take in some sun.

The products of our digital revolution run our daily routines. We are no longer free agents – technical extensions to our physical selves have become as vital as a limb or an organ.

So every week I will provide the human race with some amazing Movie selections -1 regular film, 1 foreign film, and 1 documentary.

I will also provide an amazing Music suggestion (band/artist/orchestra/whatever), 1 book to read, 1 polaroid picture of the week (submissions from followers/readers ARE accepted!!!!, maybe a music video, and whatever else I decide.

Interesting quotes/short stories/pictures/whatever else I decide are daily.

And keep in mind that I make the rules ;)

Indie Film of the Week:

"The Go-Getter"

Starring -Lou Taylor Pucci, Zooey Deschanel, & Jena Malone

Mercer (Lou Pucci) steals a car to go on a roadtrip to try and find his brother. It's one of the most interesting coming-of-age movies I've seen in a really long time. Plus, all the music is practically M. Ward.

Foreign Film of the Week:

"Suicide Club (or "Suicide Circle" in Japan)

Written and Directed by Sion Sono

This movie is for a mature audience. Basically, it tells the story of how a mass suicide committed by a group of school girls triggers more suicides all over Japan. The message behind the story is what is so chilling and true -"Are You connected with Yourself?"

Documentary of the Week:

"Party Monster: The Shockumentary"

Directed by Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato

I can't even begin to explain this "schokumentary." It's a documentary of Club Kid Michael Alig based on a novel titled "Disco Bloodbath" wriiten by fellow Club Kid James St. James in New York during the 80's. If you think Paris Hilton is a crazy socialite, wait until you meet Michael. The documentary is so crazy that it eventually led to an actual movie called "Party Monster," starring Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green.

Featured Band of the Week:

Castledoor

This is an amazing inde/pop band from California. I saw them at SXSW 2009 this year and they were lovely. I sing and dance to their songs daily, and the music video for "Dumpster Diving" has recently become a Favorite of mine of youtube!

SarahEatsWhales is also commited to saving souls from the Evils of Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and other pointless internet networking sites...I do; however, have mixed feelings about Myspace (from the musical/band aspects...and I still have an account...yes, I'm a hypocrite but at least I don't have a Facebook or a Twitter).

It goes like this:
Everyday (or almost everyday), SarahEatsWhales will post a witty/intellectual/inspiring/whatever-I-want quote or a quote from the Bible (I'm Christian, ya'll. Don't hate). A song/band selection might be included as well.

Every week, SarahEatsWhales will feature 3 movie suggestions from Yours Truly -1 indie film, 1 foreign film, and 1 documentary.
SarahEatsWhales will also feature/suggest 1 amazing band to listen to, a book to read, and a Polaroid Picture of the Week.
