It's that time again, Readers!
Sorry this post is so late...I've been ever so busy
much love!

Indie Film of the Week:
"Pope Dreams"
Directed by Patrick Hogan
Starring Phillip Vaden, Marnette Patterson, & Julie Haggerty
Not gonna lie; this movie made me cry (hey, that rhymed!). It's a lovely movie about a boy who graduated from high school and is trying to raise money to take his sick mother to the Vatican so that the pope can bless her (his mom has cancel and is dying). At the same time he meets a girl who didn't intend to fall for him because she has some secrets of her own. There's even a twist at the end that will leave you loving this movie!

Foreign Film of the Week:
"Quitting"
Directed by Zhang Yang
Starring Jia Hongshen, Jia Fengsen, & Chai Xiurong
This movie is a true gem -it's based on a true story and follows that life of Jia Hongshen, a famous actor in China as he goes through fame, depression, and drug addiction. All of the actorsin the movie play themselves in real life, and the movie shows both sides of what happens from Jia's perspective and the people that come and go in his life.

Documentary of the Week:
"Bowling for Columbine"
Directed by Michael Moore
This documentary is pretty long (clocking in a whopping 2 1/2 hours), but it is well worth it and a necessary video for all Americans (or anyone) to see. Basically, Michael Moore and his crew go around America and Canada finding out the origin of guns and gun violence. Then he applies his knowlegde to gun violence today. Go rent this movie and watch it -whether you love it or hate it, it will challenge you to think about American culture.

Indie Band of the Week:
Coconut Records
Why does the voice of this solo project sound familiar? Because this happens to be Phantom Planet's drummer Jason Shwartzman's solo effort, and this effort is an amazing musical experience for everyone. In fact, Coconut Records just released a new album called "Davy." Go buy it and listen to "Microphone" and "Saint Jerome." They (along with the whole album) will leave you with a warm and fuzzy feeling as well as a craving for more!
Check out Coconut Records @ <www.myspace.com/coconutrecords>!

For all You Bookworms:
"It's Kind of a Funny Story"
By Ned Vizzini
I read this book in high school and let me tell you -it is relatable to pretty much everyone as they go throught the pressures and events of high school and even all of life. This book follows the story of Craig Gilner, who is a perfectionist trying to ecxel in school so succeed in life. But when he gets into a very prestigious high school, he becomes depressed, stresseed, and nearly kills himself. He then checks himself into a mental hospital in New York where he meets a whole motley crew of different people with stories of their own. He is then able to start dealing with his own problems and comes out better than ever. A must-read!

Nooooo sillies; not the weekend!
It's time for this week's picks of AMAZINGNESS!!!
Everyone have a wonderful weekend!
Be sure to check all of these selections out and stay tuned for all the amazing daily updatez!

loveeee

Indie Movie of the Week:
"Dreamland"
Starring Justin Long, Agnes Bruckner, Kelli Garner, & John Corbet
Directed by Jason Matzner
Justin Long fans rejoice! This is a lovely movie that follows a community of people living in a trailer park called Dreamland. The main character of the story is caught between caring for her father and best friend or going away to college to become a writer. This is a cute movie about growing up, letting go, and moving on.

Foreign Film of the Week:
"The Band's Visit"
A film by Eran Kolirin
This movie a bit long but simply wonderful! It follows an Egytian police band touring the Middle East. They go to Israel looking for the place they are supposed to perform at, only to find that their agency made a mistake. Stuck in Israel, they are forced to ask the owner of a local restaurant to stay the night. Each member of the band learns an important lesson in life as they live out their overnight stay.

Documentary of the Week:
"Rock School"
Directed by Don Argott
This documentary is a must-see for all rockers and musicians. It is about a man named Paul Green who starts a school for young kids to learn to play rock music such as Frank Zappa, Led Zeppelin, and Black Sabbath. This documentary and Paul Green's school actually influenced the hit movie "School of Rock" starring Jack Black. You can also find members of Paul Green's School of Rock music performing for large and hip music festivals such as Austin City Limits and the Frank Zappa Festival in Germany.

Indie Band of the Week:
Irving
This band is an indie pop/rock group from Los Angeles, California. I love their music because all of their songs get stuck in your head and are pretty hard to get out. Their music is very fun to dance to as well! It's rock music with some sweet beats!
Check them out @ <http://www.myspace.com/irving>!

For all You Bookworms:
"Feed"
By M.T. Anderson
Everyone who reads this book will understand why I am so anti-internet these days.
This book is set in the future -a world where humans literally have "Feeds" in their brains. The Feeds are computers/televisions that are programmed to sell the people things they will like based on their brain readings. This book is a wonderful example of how technology becomes so intricate that humans cannot even control it anymore. A must-read for EVERYONE!

So thank you, everyone!
Keep following and I promise to give you guys nothing but pure AMAZINGNESS in return!

Also, keep an eye out for the promotion posters I have hung up around San Antonio and Austin...you'll know if you see one :)!

So here are my picks for this week!
Enjoy them!
Love them!
Enjoy life!
Love life!
But most importantly, love SaraEatsWhales!

Here we go!

Indie Film of The Week:
"On the Road with Judas"
Starring Aaron Ruell, Kevin Corrigan, Eddie Kaye Thomas, & Eleanor Hutchins
The plot of this movie is a bit hard to explain -it is about a novelist who lives in the real world and a world of his characters iniside his head. He writes a book about real people, which leads to the making of a movie with actors playing the real people. The real people from the book get a chance to interact with the people playing their characters. Fan of "The Science of Sleep" will definately enjoy this!

Foreign Film of the Week:
"Vitus"

Directed by Fredi M. Murer
This Swiss/German movie is simply wonderful! It follows the story of genious little boy named Vitus. He is very smart and excellent at playing the piano; because of his gift his parents want to use him to make themselves rich. However, along with the company of his grandfather, Vitus comes up with a plan that will fool everyone until the very end!

Documentary of the Week:

"The Boys of 2nd Street Park: A Generation's Look at Life, Loss, and Love"
A Film by Ron Berger and Dan Klores
This documentary follows a group of old men as they recount their experiences during the 1960's in New York. They went through everything together -from the Vietnam War to heavy drug use to Free Love to traveling the world to lost loves and back again. This is a very powerful documentary that also proves that true friendship and love can endure even the hardest and most difficult situations.

Indie Band of the Week:
The Most Serene Republic
I seriously cannot stop talking about this band; they are amazing! You simply MUST listen to this band! They mix classical piano with rock to create the most serene sounds. My favorite albums by them are "Population" and the "Phages" ep (I REALLY REALLY recommend this ep -it is BEAUTIFUL). Listen to this band. They will change your life!

For all You Bookworms:
", Said the Shotgun to the Head"
by Saul Williams
I cannot even begin to explain how awesome and amazing this book is. Saul Williams takes readers through love, spirituality, God, and being disconnected from everything in this 200-page poem. Every word and phrase in this book is so beautiful! This is a MUST READ for EVERYONE!

Polaroid of the Week:

"All that We Perceive"

***Again, if you would like to submit your own polaroids to be the next Polaroid of the Week, scan them and send them to <srangel2@stedwards.edu> or send them via MESSAGE to <http://www.myspace.com/egg_whites>! I'd love to see your polaroids and I'm sure everyone else would as well!
Enjoy!

Hello, Readers!
I hope you all had a wonderful week!
I also hope you enjoyed all of the past weeks entries -this week I've picked some more sweet movies/books/music for ya'll to enjoy!Have a wonderful and safe weekend!
Enjoy!!!

Indie Film of the Week:
"Cashback"
Directed be Sean Ellis
I saw this movie last semester and it honestly changed some of my outlook on life. This movie is about a guy named Ben who goes through a painful breakup. To cope and to pass the time he gets a job at a supermarket, and his life changes forever.

Foreign Film of the Week:
"The Edukators"
Directed be Hans Weingartner
This movie is seriously awesome and a must-see for everyone! It's a German movie that follows 2 guys and 1 girl as they break into people's homes. They don't steal anything though; instead, they rearrange everything and leave a note that says, "You're days of plenty are numbered." Then their lives quickly changes as one of the homeowners catches them in the act.

Documentary of the Week:
"The Bridge"
A Film by Eric Steel
***This documentary is NOT for the faint of heart
Basically, Eric Steel and his camera crew set up cameras in many different locations around San Fransico that were focused on one thing -The Golden Gate Bridge. While the cameras were filming, over a dozen people were filmed commiting suicide by jumping off the bridge to their deaths below. This documentary follows the lives of those people and has interviews with their families and friends.

Featured Indie Band of the Week:
Hello, Seahorse!
I discovered this band during SXSW 2009 in Austin, Texas. They are a cute, indie-pop band from Mexico City and have released two albums so far. Their music is very catchy and happy; you will be bobbing your heads up and down to these tunes.
To find out more, visit <http://www.helloseahorse.com>.

For all You Bookworms:
"Looking for Alaska" by John Green
This is one of my absolute FAVORITE books. In fact, one of my favorite quotes ("I go to seek a Great Perhaps") comes from that book. This book follows a girl named Alaska and her friends as they go through life a boarding high school. Read this book -you'll fall in love.

So remember, kidz -live life to the fullest and never stop loving.

Right now I am currently listening to "Blue Lips" by Regina Spektor. If you don't know who she is, be sure to check her out @ <http://www.myspace.com/reginaspektor>.
She plays mainly piano, and her style is very classical and beautiful with lovely lyrics.
Regina Spektor is actually releasing a new album titled "Far" featuring new songs like "Blue Lips" and "Laughing With."

Also, I found a VERY interesting article on why social networking sites are ruining my life, your life, and pretty much everyone else's lives because we are so consumed in them.
***TAKE SOME TIME AND READ THIS CAREFULLY.
LOG OUT OF YOUR FACEBOOK/MYSPACE/TWITTER FOR TEN MINTUES AND READ WHAT THIS ARTICLE SAYS.
IT WILL CHANGE YOU.

I have cross-posted the article here on SarahEatsWhales, but if you want to check out the actual article, go to <http://therumpus.net/2009/03/is-the-internet-ruining-our-lives/>.

"Is the Internet Ruining Our Lives?"

"We’re distracted, our attention is shot, we are under surveillance, and we don’t care! We like being linked and friended by strangers who may or may not be who they say they are. It is so easy to Google everything, highlight and paste any vaguely intelligible sentences into our research, copy and paste the Web address, and call it a citation from a reliable source. Easier still, purchase the whole essay! Or make shit up. Who cares?

"Maybe you’ve heard of us...
If not then you must be trying to hear us and in such cases we cannot be heard.
We remain in the darkness, unseen.
In the center of unpeeled bananas, we exist. Uncolored by perception.
Clothed to the naked eye.
Five senses cannot sense the fact of our existence.
And that’s the only fact.
In fact, there are no facts."
-"The Dead Sea Scrolls: The Lost Teachings of Hip Hop"
by Saul Willaims

So if you haven't already seen the movie titled "The Wrestler" starring Mickey Rourke, Marisa Tomei, and Evan Rachel Wood, GO SEE IT. It's a very good movie :)!

Also, it's beautiful outside!
Everyone should go outside and take a walk.
Or lie down in the grass and watch the clouds move.
Either way, sometime during today I want everyone to STOP what they're doing and go outside. Look at the sky. Look at nature. Soak it all up. It's beautiful, and way better than facebook or myspace.
Or if you want to be cool, use your fucking twitter to encourage people to go outside and take in some sun.
Live it.
Love it.
Now go get sunburned.

"Life becomes fully understandable only during the moment we realize that we are all mad."
-Mark Twain

Blah blah blahhhh
So today I have found an insanely interesting/thought provoking article that is featured in Adbuster's Magazine and online at <http://www.adbusters.org/blogs/adbusters_blog/era_simulation.html>.

Check it out:
"The Era of Simulation: The Consuequences of a Digital Revolution"
Monday, April 27, 2009
“For the message of any medium or technology is the change in scale or pace or pattern that it intrudes into human affairs.”
—Marshall McLuhan, Understanding Media
"We are being shaped by the constant proliferation of digital technologies in our everyday lifestyles. The Internet may have connected the globe forever, but the developed world is now completely at its mercy. Terms and conditions apply to our autonomy. The World Wide Web has infused our society with an all-encompassing reliance on media technologies. At any given time we are staring at a screen, listening to an iPod, using GPS or holding our iPhone – the device that combines all the above functions in an intuitive and responsive little pocket tool. With this handy instrument on us at all times we are obligated to communicate and to be tuned in to entertainment and information. We are objectified as “users” not people. The products of our digital revolution run our daily routines. We are no longer free agents – technical extensions to our physical selves have become as vital as a limb or an organ.

Digital media will continue to shape us independently and as a society, by acting as a conduit of experience and by invading our real space and time. How many of us have wasted hours idly surfing the Internet or aimlessly flicking through endless TV channels?

“We are asked to follow pre-programmed, objectively existing associations.”
—Lev Manovich, The Language of New Media

This is what Jean Baudrillard called “the era of simulation,” we are being herded in preordained directions, dictated by omniscient authors. By following hyperlinks on Wikipedia, for example, we are following someone else’s premeditated path through information and jumping from one piece of subject matter to another. All too often users mistake these connections as their own and continually follow externalized thought processes, relying less and less on their natural associations. Similarly, social networks such as MySpace and Facebook externalize relationships, which has fragmented society by encouraging everyone to recede into their new portable plaything rather than sparking up conversation. The BlackBerry smartphone means that bosses never have to leave the office, while microblogging services such as Twitter mean that they can text the entire team to call an all-important emergency meeting in one fell swoop. Escape is futile. As we move from an industrial civilization into an information civilization, we’re online and we’re locked in. Try a digital detox for even just a day, I bet you will fail, I already have.
—Zachary Colbert

"Just remember, the same as a spectacular Vogue magazine, remember that no matter how close you follow the jumps: Continued on page whatever.
No matter how careful you are, there's going to be the sense you missed something; the collapsed feeling under your skin that you didn't experience it all.
There's that fallen heart feeling that you rushed right through the moments where you should've been paying attention.
Well, get used to that feeling.
That's how your whole life will feel some day.

1a. (We're starting FRESH!)

***THIS IS THE FIRST NEW POST EVERRRR ON SARAHEATSWHALES!
Someone ring a cowbell...

So every week I will provide the human race with some amazing Movie selections -1 regular film, 1 foreign film, and 1 documentary.
I will also provide an amazing Music suggestion (band/artist/orchestra/whatever), 1 book to read, 1 polaroid picture of the week (submissions from followers/readers ARE accepted!!!!, maybe a music video, and whatever else I decide.
Interesting quotes/short stories/pictures/whatever else I decide are daily.
And keep in mind that I make the rules ;)
Follow them.
Love them.
Love the blog.
But most inportantly, love Yourself (and love how the contents of this blog will make you feel).

So here is goes!
Indie Film of the Week:
"The Go-Getter"
Starring -Lou Taylor Pucci, Zooey Deschanel, & Jena Malone
Mercer (Lou Pucci) steals a car to go on a roadtrip to try and find his brother. It's one of the most interesting coming-of-age movies I've seen in a really long time. Plus, all the music is practically M. Ward.

Foreign Film of the Week:
"Suicide Club (or "Suicide Circle" in Japan)
Written and Directed by Sion Sono
This movie is for a mature audience. Basically, it tells the story of how a mass suicide committed by a group of school girls triggers more suicides all over Japan. The message behind the story is what is so chilling and true -"Are You connected with Yourself?"

Documentary of the Week:

"Party Monster: The Shockumentary"
Directed by Fenton Bailey & Randy Barbato
I can't even begin to explain this "schokumentary." It's a documentary of Club Kid Michael Alig based on a novel titled "Disco Bloodbath" wriiten by fellow Club Kid James St. James in New York during the 80's. If you think Paris Hilton is a crazy socialite, wait until you meet Michael. The documentary is so crazy that it eventually led to an actual movie called "Party Monster," starring Macaulay Culkin and Seth Green.

Featured Band of the Week:
Castledoor
This is an amazing inde/pop band from California. I saw them at SXSW 2009 this year and they were lovely. I sing and dance to their songs daily, and the music video for "Dumpster Diving" has recently become a Favorite of mine of youtube!

For all the lovely Bookworms:

"Steppenwolf," by Herman Hesse

THIS BOOK WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE. Seriously. It's dangerous. NOW GO READ.

Polaroid of the Week!

Look no further; the answers are all right here.

Basically, SarahEatsWhales is a blog featuring amazing music, movies, documentaries, books, pictures, things to do, and places to see suggestions by Yours Truly.
SarahEatsWhales is also commited to saving souls from the Evils of Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, and other pointless internet networking sites...I do; however, have mixed feelings about Myspace (from the musical/band aspects...and I still have an account...yes, I'm a hypocrite but at least I don't have a Facebook or a Twitter).

It goes like this:
Everyday (or almost everyday), SarahEatsWhales will post a witty/intellectual/inspiring/whatever-I-want quote or a quote from the Bible (I'm Christian, ya'll. Don't hate). A song/band selection might be included as well.

Every week, SarahEatsWhales will feature 3 movie suggestions from Yours Truly -1 indie film, 1 foreign film, and 1 documentary.
SarahEatsWhales will also feature/suggest 1 amazing band to listen to, a book to read, and a Polaroid Picture of the Week.

Oh yeah, and did I mention that I hate Facebook? And Myspace? And Twitter?
LEAVE THEM ALL BEHIND!
COMMIT SOCIAL NETWORKING SUICIDE AND FOLLOW THIS BLOG!
You'll be glad you did.
Because in the end, this is all you'll need...you might need a myspace to promote your band...but you'll need this more than water.
Seriously.

See you tomorrow, everyone!

SER
